Car Seat Inspections

The Essex Police Department has nationally certified child passenger safety technicians who are available to check the installation of your child’s seat. The national misuse rate of children in car seats have historically been upwards of 75%.

Appointments

If you would like to have your child’s seat checked for free please call 802-878-8331 or send an email to make an appointment. Appointments take about 30 to 60 minutes so please plan accordingly. Please bring the following items to your appointment:

  • Child who will be sitting in the seat to be checkedCorrectly used child safety seats can reduce the risk of death by as much as 71 percent
  • Owner’s manual for the car seat
  • Owner’s manual for the vehicle

Car Seat Vouchers

If you have received a voucher for a free seat through the Vermont Department of Health, please bring the voucher with you or we will not be able to provide a seat for you. Educational Materials are also available for adults and children.

Vermont Safety Seat Voucher Program

The Vermont Safety Seat Voucher Program allows for distribution of free car seats and booster seats to income-eligible families who meet program requirements. Income eligibility is determined by receipt of state or federal funds.
