Essex Community Resource Guide

The community of Essex, VT, and the State of Vermont are home to many food and social service groups for those in need of extra assistance, whether temporary or long-term. Please consider using this reference as a starting point for you or someone you know.

The Winooski Valley Park District provides residents in the Chittenden County area with large natural areas for outdoor recreation and education. It is a public, non-profit corporation that was charted in 1972. It is funded by its member communities, membership dues, grants and private donation. The Park District’s goals are to acquire and manage open space, wildlife habitat, and natural areas. Their Colchester Pond site connects to Essex’s Indian Brook Conservation Area.

Cub Scout Pack 630 Opens in new window

Cub Scout Pack 630 of Essex Junction is one of the most active packs in the state. Boys and Girls in kindergarten through 5th grade participate in various adventures, including building pinewood derby cars, overnight trips to museums, family camping weekends, hiking, fishing, climbing, STEM projects, community service projects, and more. Dens have monthly meetings with a joint monthly pack meeting and optional monthly outings and service projects. Scouting is like a one-stop shop to get a little bit of all sorts of activities and life skills while building character.

Essex Junction Lions Club Opens in new windowThe Essex Junction Lions Club is a civic organization of volunteers serving Essex Junction and the surrounding area. Lions Clubs worldwide took up sight conservation as their major goal after a speech by Helen Keller at the Lions Convention in 1925. At the time, Helen Keller challenged the Lions to become "Knights of the Blind", a challenge that has become a rallying cry for Lions projects around the world.

Essex Junction Little League Opens in new windowEssex Junction Little League provides boys and girls (kindergarten–age 12) an opportunity to learn and play baseball. In addition to baseball skills, the children learn the value of teamwork, sportsmanship, and perseverance. EJLL encourages all players of eligible age to come out and play regardless of ability. We are proud to be part of the Positive Youth Sports Alliance of Essex. Scholarships are available based on need. 


Essex Skating Facility Opens in new windowThe Essex Skating Facility is a state-of-the-art community center for both on-ice and off-ice activities. The facility is open year-round for various functions, including ice hockey, regional educational events, recreational programs, and community events. The Facility features a new refrigeration system, new locker rooms, new dasher boards, a new lobby area, and an expanded vending area. The Essex Skating Facility is used for a variety of student and community programs, including Essex High School Hockey Teams, Mount Mansfield Union High School Hockey Teams, Vermont Skating Academy, Essex Youth Hockey, Stick, and Puck Program, Public Skating, Box Lacrosse, and many more!


Essex United Soccer Club Opens in new windowEssex United Soccer Club (EUSC) is an organization that offers competitive soccer to boys and girls ages 4 to 17. EUSC players are registered with the Vermont State Soccer Association and compete in the Vermont Soccer League. The season runs April-June, with all games scheduled on weekends.

Girl ScoutsGirl Scouts: We have three active troop levels for girls in grades K-5 and are looking to expand. Girls are active in the community and participate in various activities such as sock hops, ice skating, and overnight outings. The troops have bi-weekly meetings and learn valuable life lessons and expand friendships outside of the classroom.

Tree Farm Recreational Facility Opens in new windowTree Farm Recreational Facility: Open since 2004, the Tree Farm Recreational Facility is one of the largest athletic field complexes north of New York City. We offer 13+ fields, primarily used for soccer, but also have a rugby field and host other sports such as frisbee and kickball. The facility is also widely used by the community for a variety of other recreational uses, including bike riding, dog walking, and kite flying.
